How to Play Monster Brawl

Starting a Game

Before every game, you'll choose both a Map and a Difficulty. Every player makes these selections individually, whether they're playing Live, Solo, or Homework, allowing everyone to customize the challenge to match their own skill level.

Once you've made your selections, answer your first question and choose your starting upgrade before the first wave of monsters appears.

Controls

Monster Brawl features simple controls so you can focus on surviving.

Desktop

Use arrow keys or click and hold your cursor to move your Blook in any direction.

Mobile

Tap and hold anywhere on the screen to move your Blook.

Defeat Monsters and Level Up

Monsters continuously appear and attack from every direction.

Each monster you defeat drops an Experience Crystal. Collect enough crystals to fill your Experience bar, then answer questions from your selected Question Set to level up.

Note: On Levels 1-29 you will answer one question from the set when your XP bar fills up. Level 30 requires players to answer two questions from the set before choosing an upgrade.

After answering correctly, you'll choose a new upgrade that strengthens your character for the increasingly difficult waves ahead.

As you progress further into the game, you'll occasionally answer more than one question before earning your next upgrade.

Choose Your Upgrades

Every level gives you the opportunity to improve your character.

Monster Brawl features a wide variety of upgrades, and your early upgrade choices influence which advanced upgrades become available later in the game.

Players can track their upgrades and upgrade levels in the bottom left corner of their screen.

Stay Alive

Monsters damage you whenever they touch you. The green bar beneath your Blook displays your current health level. Keep an eye on it as you move around the map!

Throughout each game you'll also find other things dropped by monsters.

Cheese restores some of your Health.

Magnets attract unclaimed Experience Crystals.

Game Goals

Monster Brawl has slightly different objectives depending on how you're playing.

Solo & Homework

Your goal is to survive for as long as possible, reaching higher and higher levels (tracked in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Once your Health reaches zero, the game ends.

Live

In Live games, every player competes on their own map while collecting Experience Crystals and defeating monsters.

The player who collects the most Experience Crystals before the game ends wins. Players can track their progress and time left in the top right corner of the screen.

If your Health reaches zero, you will be defeated, but you aren't eliminated. Instead, you'll answer three questions from the selected Question Set to respawn and jump back into the action.

Strategy Tips

Tip: Pay attention to the gaps between monsters. Avoid getting completely surrounded before you have enough firepower to escape.

Tip: While staying on the move helps keep escape routes open, there are times when holding your ground is beneficial, especially if you're using upgrades like Dark Energy or Horseshoes that damage nearby enemies.

Tip: Experience Crystals don't disappear. If an area is too dangerous, leave them where they are and come back once you've cleared nearby monsters or found a Magnet to collect them all at once.

Tip: Save Cheese until you've actually taken damage, and save Magnets until there are plenty of Experience Crystals waiting to be collected. Using either pickup too early wastes much of its potential.

Tip: Your early upgrade choices determine which advanced upgrades become available later. Try different combinations to discover new strategies and play styles.

Tip: Try different maps and difficulty levels to challenge yourself and explore new upgrade combinations.
