How to Play
In Zorblitz, the goal is to clear levels, rack up points, and earn the highest star rating possible. Players can choose any Question Set from Discover or their own sets, then click Play Solo and select Zorblitz.
Level Selection
Start the game by selecting a level. Each completed level unlocks the next one, and levels can be replayed anytime to improve scores.
Controls
- Desktop: Move the paddle side to side with your mouse.
- Mobile/Tablet: Use the touch controls to move the paddle.
Scoring
- Clear all breakable bricks to complete a level.
- Earn points for breaking bricks and bouncing alien enemies.
- Lose points if alien space trash hits your paddle.
- Drop the ball and you’ll lose a life
Bricks
| Single-Hit Bricks: Break after one bounce. | |
| Multi-Hit Bricks: Require multiple hits to clear. | |
| Indestructible Bricks: Can’t be broken; players must work around them. | |
| Power-Up Bricks: Drop upgrades like extended paddles, fiery balls, or magnet paddles. Catch the icons that fall when you hit power up bricks. | |
| Exploding Bricks: Explode when hit, destroying nearby bricks. | |
| Invisible Bricks: Invisible until struck multiple times |
Alien Enemies
Aliens stand on top of bricks, tossing space trash toward the paddle.
- Knock out the bricks beneath them to make them fall.
- Bounce aliens on your paddle to earn bonus points and hit bricks.
- Avoid or deflect falling trash to protect your score.
Grumps
- If grump touches you, you lose a life. You can knock out grumps to gain extra points.
Answering Questions
At intervals, gameplay pauses and your paddle will deploy a tractor beam which holds the ball in place as you answer questions from the set— it could be between one to three questions at a time. Players must answer a question correctly to continue. The ball will re-launch from your paddle and play will resume.
Losing the Game
- If all lives are used, the level will be lost.
- Players can retry levels as many times as needed.
Advancing Through Levels
Each new level increases difficulty with:
- Tougher bricks and patterns
- Faster ball speed
- More alien enemy encounters and unique challenges
Settings
You can now increase the Question Frequency by toggling the More Questions option on in the Settings.
Quick Tips
- Don’t panic if space trash is falling — sometimes it’s better to lose some points and let it hit the paddle than to drop the ball and lose a life.
- Bounce aliens as many times as possible before letting them drop for extra points (even after all bricks are cleared).
- Angle the bounce by adjusting where the ball hits on the paddle.
- For advanced control, try slicing the ball to put some spin on it.
- Prioritize power-ups to increase coverage, speed, and ball control.
Using Zorblitz for Homework
Zorblitz works both as a solo practice game and as a homework option. Teachers can assign it, and if allowed, students can choose it from the game selection screen.
Troubleshooting
If you notice lag or choppy motion, try shutting off all other apps and closing all other browser tabs. If issues persist, quitting and restarting the browser or using a different one could improve performance.
Ensure your device battery does not drop below 20% and the computer is not in battery-saver mode.
If you find the game in an unresponsive state, refreshing the browser will usually get the game running again. Your scores for completed levels will be saved.
